META
Tags
Meta tags will help you control your
Web site's description in engines that support them. Adding some meta description code can
be useful, but is not the only method to increase your rankings. Your <META> text
should appear in the <HEAD> part of your document, (if your Web designer even put
them in), like this:
<HEAD>
<TITLE>Title of your site</TITLE>
<META Name="description" Content="Write your description here">
<META Name="keywords" Content="Keywords or phrases, separated by
commas">
</HEAD>
*A Note on META tags - META tags are a form of keywords that are inserted
into your html file. This does not affect what your visitors see, and will not affect any
function or operation of your page. Plus, always verify that the <TITLE>Title of
your site</TITLE> is above the META tag. Front Page is know to put the meta tag
above the title. If this is the case, the search engine will not index your site
correctly!
Body
If a Web page lacks descriptive text, then there is little chance that Web page will come
up in the results of a search engine query. The search engines sort Web pages in order of
the density of keywords in the document. It doesn't matter how many times keywords appear
in the document, only the percentage.
